The Energy and Commerce Committee’s energy and environment provisions added $73.4 billion to the deficit - less than the $96.2 billion allocated for them. The Congressional Budget Office score, which many moderate Democrats were awaiting, found that the overall bill would add $367 billion to the deficit over a decade, with contributions to that from the climate and energy provisions coming in slightly lower than expected. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had queued up a vote for Thursday evening after the Senate Parliamentarian indicated the bill wouldn't break the rules of reconciliation once it leaves the House. The vote was initially scheduled for Thursday night but got stalled after a multi-hour, winding, bombastic speech from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on the House floor, garnering jeers from House Democrats confident in a path forward on the bill.
